Persons wishing to visit Canada must apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) to travel to Canada unless based on their country of citizenship is on the list of countries exempt from needing a TRV to travel and visit Canada.

To be eligible for a TRV individuals need to show that they have enough time to finance their trip and stay in Canada, that they will leave Canada at the end of their stay and also that they have ties to their home countries encouraging them to return home. Also, persons have to show that they are admissible to Canada (good health, no criminality etc.).

Generally visitors can stay in Canada for six (6) months but if they wish to stay beyond their authorized period they need to apply for an Extension of their visitor status.

Individuals who stay in Canada beyond their authorized period and did not apply for an extension may be eligible for the Restoration of their Temporary Resident Status.
