Study Permit

Persons wishing to study in Canada should seek authorization from Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada in order to do so. If eligible, they can apply for a study permit but first they must have been accepted into a Designated Learning institution in Canada that has a valid DLI number.

To be eligible for a study permit, individuals have to show that they have enough funds to cover their tuition and other expenses related to their stay and they have to show that they intend to leave Canada at the end of their stay.

Individuals applying for a study permit may be accompanied by their family members (Spouses and dependent children) who can qualify for spousal open work permits or study permits (if eligible).

In addition, upon graduating from an eligible public- post secondary institution, holders of a study permit can apply for the Post – Graduation Work permit which allows them to work full-time in Canada after they have completed their studies. This can be a great way for persons to gain necessary Canadian work experience to qualify for Permanent Residence.
